Rescues are the best dogs. I have five of them. Makai is my beautiful 12 year old Hawaiian dog I adopted from Kauai Humane Society in July 2016 when I went on vacation and decided to volunteer at the shelter on the island. I saw Makai and fell in love. He was only 4 years old and when I saw he has a disability, he has a deformed leg, I knew he was even more special because Makai didn't let his disability affect him. He is the best happy go lucky dog. I flew him home with us in First Class on Alaska and American Airlines to Dallas, Texas in July 2016 and he has lived with us since then. He is the sweetest most loving boy. Full of ALOHA, I mean he is Hawaiian. I realized after adopting Makai that I want to adopt all my future dogs from Hawaii. There are so many dogs everywhere but there is something special about Makai. Makai now lives with his dog brother Apollo, dog sisters Sasha, Melia and Leilani. I have a fascination with Hawaii so decided all future adopted dogs must have Hawaiian names. So who knows, the next dog I adopt could be name Maui or Kona and will be from Maui Humane Society or @kauaihumanesociety. Makai will be featured in the upcoming Tails of Austin fundraiser coffee table book and the book launch will be at the studio November 2. The charity fundraiser book raises money for AY CHIHUAHUA RESCUE and Austin Humane Society
